Now that December is upon us, we have been feverishly festooning our home with Christmas decorations. The tree, stockings, wreath, and front porch trimmings are all out.

All the Autumn and Halloween decor has long since been put away–except for several mini pumpkins. Between trips to the pumpkin patch and school parties for both kids, we have lots of these pumpkins left over. I assumed they would’ve gone bad by now, but they are as fresh and firm as ever.

Instead of tossing them into the compost bin, I decided to repurpose them into Christmas decor. Thus, the Pumpkin Snowman was born.

If you have extra mini pumpkins lying around from Autumn or Halloween, give this Pumpkin Snowman a try!

  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

  • 3 mini pumpkins
  • white acrylic paint
  • orange acrylic paint
  • black acrylic paint
  • blue acrylic paint
  • white glue
  • styrofoam

  1. Compare the sizes of the pumpkins and designate the largest one for the bottom portion of the snowman and the smallest for the head. Then, paint each pumpkin with 2-3 coats of white paint, letting them dry between coats.
  2. Cut the styrofoam into a square, slightly larger than the base of the largest pumpkin. Paint it blue.
  3. Glue the pumpkins one on top of the other, smallest first, down to the largest. Allow to set for about 30 minutes. Then glue the styrofoam to the bottom pumpkin to form a base.
  4. Paint eyes and a mouth on the head with black paint. Add a carrot nose in orange.
  5. Add buttons on the middle and last pumpkin with black paint. Allow paint to dry.
  6. Finally, paint the stem black for the snowman’s hat.

*Optional: Glue a piece of ribbon between the head and the middle pumpkin for a cute little scarf.

And there you have it! A repurposed Pumpkin Snowman ready to greet visitors on your front porch or windowsill. Happy crafting!

How do you repurpose perfectly good Fall pumpkins for the holiday season?

I never thought of using pumpkins for anything other than fall and Halloween. What a great idea!

    • Me neither…till this year! My kids brought home so many mini pumpkins between school parties and the pumpkin patch, and boy are they hardy little guys! I felt bad throwing them out, so I repurposed them instead. Happy crafting!
