The Lindsay Wildlife Experience in Walnut Creek, CA is a really great way to spend a day with family while learning about local animals and their habitats.

Certain exhibits feature taxidermied animals, mounted in lifelike habitats, which allow visitors an up-close look at creatures they otherwise would not have been able to safely observe.

There is also a glass-front enclosure with several birds of prey, such as barn owls, great horned owls, and a golden eagle, among others. They move and fly freely within the enclosure, where visitors can observe and even photograph them.

Lindsay Wildlife also treats injured animals that are brought in by locals to its veterinary hospital.

Those that make a full recovery are eventually released into the wild; those with more serious impairments become “ambassadors” at Lindsay, available for viewing by visitors in their new permanent home.

Every hour, an expert presents a live exhibition of one of the “ambassadors” of Lindsay. We were there to see Garnet, the Acorn Woodpecker and a cute Western screech owl named Cypress.

The rest of the museum is dedicated to teaching young and old about other local wildlife, as well as conservation efforts, through interactive exhibits and games.

Lindsay Wildlife is a fun place for kids of all ages, as they learn about local animals, habitats, and how we are all connected.
