It’s that time of year again, to escape the cold and wind, rain and snow, to grab your warmest blanket, fuzzy socks, and binge watch holiday movies with your kids. If you’re anything like me, you also like to have a steaming cup of hot cocoa nearby as you sink into the couch!
Here is a round-up of 8 movies currently streaming on Netflix this Christmas, which will delight young and old alike:
Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas
Plot: George, aided by The Man in the Yellow Hat, learns how the people around him celebrate Christmas. Then they try to decide what gifts to give each other.
Why you should watch it: There is something so quaint and innocent about Curious George and the characters that populate his world. It’s all the more quaint when it’s at Christmastime!
Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse
Plot: After various Disney character guests are snowed in at the House of Mouse following a show, Mickey suggests they have their own Christmas party and Mickey treats them all to some fun holiday-themed shorts.
Why you should watch it: This movie Disney-fies classic holiday tales such as The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol. Who wouldn’t like that?
The Star
Plot: The Nativity story is retold in this creative adaptation of the birth of Jesus, from the animals’ point of view.
Why you should watch it: This is a fun retelling of the Nativity, full of action, adventure, and humor for all ages.
The Princess Switch
Plot: A baker in Chicago accidentally bumps into her doppelgänger, who just so happens to be a duchess. They then agree to switch places for a few days, unexpectedly falling in love with each others’ suitors in the process.
Why you should watch it: It’s the Christmas season all the way through, showing how both royalty and the other half live.
The Princess Diaries
Plot: Clumsy San Francisco teen Mia Thermopolis is shocked to learn that she is heir to the throne of the small kingdom of Genovia, after an unexpected meeting with her estranged grandmother, the queen.
Why you should watch it: Technically, it’s not really a Christmas movie; however, becoming a princess overnight has a magic all its own.
The Princess Diaries 2
Plot: Five years after the first movie, Princess Mia is informed that she cannot become queen unless she is married in 30 days. She rejects this law, and rebellion, hilarity, and ultimately romance, ensue.
Why you should watch it: You will want to see what happens next to dear Mia in the sequel!
Christmas Inheritance
Plot: A spoiled socialite from New York is sent to her father’s hometown to deliver a letter to his close friend and business partner, while learning the true spirit of giving.
Why you should watch it: This movie is the epitome of Christmas movie cheese. It’s a great way to unwind on a chilly evening or after a heavy holiday meal. The story is predictable, yet engaging enough to keep the family entertained.
The Christmas Project
Plot: A writer reminisces on a particular Christmas from his childhood, spending time with his three brothers and parents, who make an annual tradition of secretly leaving gifts on the doorstep of a family in need. This Christmas the family in need happens to be that of the school bully.
Why you should watch it: Besides taking place at Christmastime, it’s actually a hilarious and realistic slice of life of four young brothers and the spirit of giving and gratitude.

Oh my goodness! You rock!!
Fantastic post!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you! Happy holidays!
We love curious george at our house too.
The other Mickey Mouse movies on Netflix are fun too. My son can’t get Christmas started without them!!
I love watching movies at home because you get to make your own popcorn just the way you like it.
That’s a really good point. Movie theater popcorn tends to be hit or miss.
