the everyday little miracles

everyday little miraclesI was cleaning out my wallet—long overdue, I assure you—when I chanced upon a used gift card from almost 10 years ago.

Now, this was no ordinary gift card and had a special place in my heart.

If you don’t know by now, I’m a big believer in the Law of Attraction. Say what you will about The Secret, but the philosophies mentioned in it had really got me thinking.

According to the Law of Attraction, if you intend something, the Universe will conspire to bring it into your life.

At first, though I was intrigued, I wasn’t totally on board. I mean, can I just wish for something and it comes true? Then why wasn’t I a millionaire with a mansion on my very own island yet?

In the documentary, we are told to think of something small, like a cup of coffee. Make it your intention to bring a cup of coffee into your life.

“Ok,” I agreed. Free coffee. Free coffee. I will not pay for this coffee. The stale coffee in the employee breakroom doesn’t count either.

After two days of this, I got a bit busy with life, and temporarily forgot about my wish intention.

Fast forward to the end of the week, when my brother, who was to graduate from high school that month, walks into my room and randomly says,

“My teacher gave out graduation gifts for the top grade-earners in the class, and I got one.”

I look up.

“I don’t really want mine,” he continues. “Do you want it?”

Now, usually I’m all for free stuff, but I wondered: why would I want my bro’s reject gift? Was there something wrong with it?

“What is it?” I ask, and he extends a small envelope to me.

Curious, I lift the flap, and pull out a card. The card.

It’s for Starbucks.

With my eyes bulging, I bounce up and down on my bed. “Relax,” says my bro, “it’s just Starbucks.”

“You don’t get it,” I shriek. I tell him about my intention for free coffee.

“Cool,” he replies, though I can tell he’s impressed. He goes back to his room.

Now, I will never know if this was really the Universe conspiring to bring me coffee, or a Big Fat Coincidence. All I know is that is pretty remarkable that a high school student would turn down free Starbucks, even if the card was only worth like ten dollars.

Think about all the channels this little intention had to go through in order to reach me:

  • the teacher had to decide to give gifts—not that uncommon, but not that common
  • he decided to give gift cards to Starbucks, specifically
  • my bro decided he didn’t want it/couldn’t use it (he wasn’t much of a coffee drinker)
  • my bro passed over giving the card to a friend to give it to me instead

Anyway, I used the card up pretty quickly (did I mention it was only ten dollars?), and I still carry that card around with me in my wallet to this day, as a reminder of Life’s Everyday Little Miracles!

What’s one little, crazy, beautiful miracle that happened to you that still wows you to this day?

  1. I did not believe in the secret until I met my husband, aka the love of my life!!! He was truly brought into my life thru my positive vibes and constant imagining!!

  2. I think I want to believe in this Law of Attraction ..more so because I have had similar experiences of getting what I silently wished for and spending my remainder part of the day wondering how this happened. I remember how much I wanted to own a traditional Indian sharara ( a long top with gold embroidery with a long flowy skirt) when I was in school. And it so happened that a family friend came visiting us in Delhi with the whole family. One evening they took me and my sister out to do some shopping(Which I thought was for them ! ). The daughter kept asking me to choose a sharara for her relative who was my age and I selected the one I loved most….On returning home , she turned to , gifting me the sharara I had helped them choose…I was dumbstruck and thrilled….
Since then I have had similar experiences again, but this once incident stays etched in my memory till date. Call it the ‘Law of Attraction’ or a mere coincidence !
