By now, we have heard all about the royal baby George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, firstborn son of Prince William and duchess Kate Middleton.
I had CNN on while working on my laptop; I turned my head just in time to see the reporter break the happy news. Expected, as reporters and cameramen had been camped outside the hospital since Kate’s due date.
Unexpected was seeing the duchess sporting her post delivery bump while waving to the crowd. Most celeb moms would’ve worn their tightest girdle before being greeted by hundreds of cameras and being broadcast to millions around the world.
My first reaction was surprise, then a rush of empathy and respect. This is how a “real” new mom is supposed to look.
My second thought was: Diana should’ve been here to see this. She was also truly a “real mom” among the royals, taking her kids out to eat, visiting amusement parks, and including her sons in her charitable efforts.
Despite all the inevitable comparisons to her mother-in-law, I think we can agree that there will never again be anyone quite like Diana, yet Kate seems to be well on her way to becoming another Peoples’ Princess. She still has yet to hire a nanny, and both she and William are staying with Kate’s parents in the fancifully-named town of Bucklebury.
I have every reason to believe little George will be raised by a very down-to-earth and good-hearted mom amidst all the royal craziness.
Celeb moms should take note: if a duchess can do it, then so can you.
Best wishes and congrats!
